A Spanish woman aged 34 was found dead with multiple stab wounds in a residential property in Leganés. Police are investigating whether it is gender-based violence.
Second homicide in Madrid on a Saturday marked by violence
The National Police are investigating the violent death of a 34-year-old Spanish woman found in a property on Moraña Street, 19, in the Zarzaquemada neighbourhood in Leganés, according to reports from El Mundo. The body was discovered at 15:15 on Saturday when her father called 091 to report that he had entered his daughter's home and found her dead.
Officers found the victim covered in blood and beyond resuscitation. Next to the body was a knife also stained with blood. Sources close to the case described the scene as devastating due to the large quantity of blood in the room.
The investigation also suggests that someone may have attempted to dispose of the body by fire, given that traces of accelerants were found at the location. Investigators are studying whether the crime falls within a case of gender-based violence. The only lead investigators are working with is that two days earlier there was a man in the company of the victim, although he had not been located by the time of publication.
According to the same sources, the woman was not registered in the Viogen system—the national register for monitoring victims of gender-based violence—and no warning signs had been detected in her family circle.
The Violent Crimes Unit of Forensic Police and Homicide Group VI of the Superior Police Headquarters of Madrid took charge of the case.
The incident was the second homicide recorded that Saturday in the Madrid region. That same afternoon, the arrest of an 85-year-old Spanish man was announced for his alleged involvement in the violent death of his ex-daughter-in-law, a 47-year-old Asian woman found strangled in a property on Ferrocarril Street, in the Madrid district of Arganzuela.
Likewise, a 40-year-old man was found injured from five gunshot wounds at the entrance of a hospital in Móstoles. The victim was identified as Rafael Hornero, known as El Niño, a criminal linked to robbery using the moon-landing method and associated with the Samuelillo gang.
