Norwegian accused of human trafficking arrested in Barcelona
Catalan police arrested a 44-year-old man sought by Norwegian authorities for his involvement in a sexual exploitation network.

Arrest in Barcelona for human trafficking
The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a 44-year-old Norwegian citizen on 25 September accused of participating in a criminal organisation dedicated to human trafficking. According to The Olive Press, the detainee moved constantly between hotels to evade police.
A European arrest warrant issued by Norwegian courts enabled the arrest. Nordic investigators link the suspect to a network that sexually exploited vulnerable migrant women, mostly with no links to Norway, with no knowledge of the language and without financial resources or support networks.
Operation of the criminal network
The gang recruited victims between September 2025 and August 2026, mainly in Lillestrøm and other localities in south-eastern Norway. The detainee allegedly transported the women, provided them with accommodation, promoted their services and kept the payments. The organisation set the working conditions of the victims and rented out the flats where they worked.
Some of the exploited women had children or family members in their countries of origin who were financially dependent on them. Norwegian police knew he was in Catalonia but locating him proved difficult: he had no fixed address, changed hotels regularly and had provided a false Barcelona address at previous police checkpoints.
Capture following surveillance
Officers identified a person close to the suspect and placed them under surveillance. They detected a high-end rental vehicle linked to the detainee near a residence. When he exited the vehicle, the Mossos arrested him.
The man has appeared before court and awaits extradition to Norway, where he faces a sentence of up to 28 years in prison if convicted.
