Anti-drugs operation in A Pobra do Caramiñal: 1,500 kilos of cocaine and four arrested
The National Police's GRECO unit seized nearly 1,500 kilos of cocaine and arrested at least four people in A Pobra do Caramiñal, Galicia.
New blow to drug trafficking in Galicia: 1,500 kilos of cocaine seized in A Pobra
Officers from the Organised Crime Special Response Group (GRECO) of the National Police carried out an anti-narcotics operation in the early hours of this morning in the municipality of A Pobra do Caramiñal, in the province of Pontevedra. According to elperiodico.com, the operation resulted, pending official confirmation, in the seizure of approximately 1,500 kilos of cocaine and the arrest of at least four people.
The operation began in the early morning hours with a large deployment of officers and police vehicles, some concealed, who proceeded to search the A Ribeiriña area. Subsequently, according to Europa Press, the officers extended inspections to an area near Conchido beach, close to the municipality of Boiro.
The cocaine was found in a premises located in a seafront property. Various sources suggest that those arrested would belong to the Os Fanchos clan, a group that has been linked for years to the introduction, custody and distribution of drugs in the area. Everything indicates that the cache was prepared for distribution. The operation remained ongoing at the time of publication, so both the number of arrests and the amount of drugs seized could increase.
The operation involved officers from the National Police in Pontevedra and from the Ribeira police station.
Recent precedents on the Galician coast
This action adds to a series of police operations registered in Galicia in recent months. In September 2025, also in A Pobra do Caramiñal, the GRECO intercepted more than 3,600 kilos of cocaine following an unloading on Cabío beach, allegedly transported on board a narco-submarine. That operation concluded with 17 arrests, three of them of South American origin.
On 10 August, another operation in Muxía resulted in 26 arrests—including a Civil Guard officer—and more than 1,600 kilos of cocaine seized during an unloading on Arnela beach. Those arrested were part of a criminal organisation dedicated to the introduction of large caches into Spain using high-speed vessels.
That operation was made possible thanks to an investigation initiated in January 2025, following the discovery of a narco-submarine in the Camariñas estuary whose cache was unloaded on Os Muiños beach in Muxía. The Ministry of Interior confirmed "the existence of a criminal organisation established in Costa da Morte", specialised in the introduction of narcotics at isolated points on the Galician coast that required precise knowledge of local geography.
