Investigation into contract killing at Marbella clinic

According to reports by The Olive Press, police have opened a line of investigation focused on a discontented patient who allegedly ordered the murder of Dr Alexander Aslani, 57, a renowned aesthetic surgeon shot dead at his Cirumed clinic in Marbella shortly before 18:00 on Wednesday.

Sources at the National Police indicated to media outlet El Español that everything points to a patient or people in her circle as the intellectual authors of the crime. Investigators have reviewed one by one the profiles of the clinic's female clients searching for links to drug traffickers among their relatives, not ruling out the possibility that people close to the patient also participated in the homicide.

The main line of investigation revolves around a financial dispute. According to reports, the patient regretted her surgical procedure and demanded a refund that Aslani refused, which led to threats. Her partner subsequently turned up at the clinic to demand compensation. The surgeon, who testified before the Higher Court of London in a defamation case in 2021 that at least 70 per cent of his patients were British, had practised on the Costa del Sol for almost twenty years.

Officers from the National Police arrested an 18-year-old Swede less than 24 hours after the shooting when he was about to leave Spain after having travelled from outside the province of Málaga. Investigators believe he acted on commission with help from others, so further arrests have not been ruled out.

Although police have ruled out for now a settling of scores between criminal gangs, it is reported that some of Dr Aslani's patients and their relatives have links to organised crime, with many clients residing in the Campo de Gibraltar. A friend told regional newspaper SUR that Aslani was a man "very successful and not involved in murky dealings". The case remains under judicial secrecy and the detainee has not yet appeared before a judge.
