Three arrested from "Fanchos" clan following seizure of 1,410 kilos of cocaine in A Pobra do Caramiñal

The National Police seized 1,410 kilogrammes of cocaine in the Corunna municipality of A Pobra do Caramiñal during the early hours of Saturday 22 August, according to interior.gob.es. Among the three arrested is the leader of the historic "Fanchos" clan, whom investigators identify as the coordinator of the reception and custody of the shipment.

The operation, carried out with the collaboration of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), began on 20 August after it became known that two vessels had introduced a significant consignment of cocaine through a beach in A Pobra do Caramiñal. The "Fanchos" clan is believed to have assumed responsibility for the unloading and subsequent custody of the drug.

Surveillance of the clan leader

The investigation focused from the outset on the clan leader, identified as one of the principal coordinators of the shipment. On 21 August, at 06:55 hours, officers observed a vehicle approaching the home of the main subject of investigation. Moments later, a person exited the residence with a rucksack and got into the vehicle, whose occupants adopted numerous measures to avoid being followed or detected.

During the early hours of 22 August, the clan leader and two other men made several trips from his home to a shed situated opposite his property, very close to O Conchido beach. Officers observed the three individuals transferring heavy packages from that shed to another residence in the same municipality. Based on the characteristics of the packages and the manner in which they were being handled, investigators suspected they contained cocaine.

Searches and results of the operation

Given the evidence of the transfer and concealment of the drug, officers proceeded to arrest the three individuals involved and to secure the drugs. Subsequently, three searches were carried out: at the home of the main subject of investigation, at the shed, and at the third residence to which the packages had been transferred.

As a result of these searches, 1,410 kilogrammes of cocaine, 100 grammes of heroin, cash and other items of interest to the investigation were seized. The majority of the drug was found distributed between a residence and the adjacent shed, both located very close to O Conchido beach.

Charges and presentment to judicial authorities

The three arrested individuals, among whom the leader of the historic "Fanchos" clan stands out, are charged as suspected perpetrators of the offences of membership of a criminal organisation and drug trafficking. All of them were brought before the judicial authorities during the morning of the same day.
