Rapper Morad was arrested on Sunday in Barcelona after hitting a Guardia Urbana police officer on the arm, according to reports by Metropoli Abierta and elperiodico.com. The incident occurred at the intersection of Pau Claris and Mallorca street.
Officers were identifying two people riding a scooter without helmets when the singer began recording them and challenged the police. They then requested his documentation, which the artist was not carrying. When moved aside, Morad struck one of the officers on the arm, which led to his arrest for assault on authority.
This is not the first time the rapper has confronted security forces without carrying his documentation. In June he was arrested after intervening in a fight in a Barcelona car park in which he allegedly assaulted a customer. On that occasion he was not carrying his documents either and was administratively charged with refusing to identify himself and for disrespect to officers.
At the end of April, a plainclothes patrol of the Mossos d'Esquadra detained him on Avenida de Catalunya in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat for breach of sentence: there was a restraining order for the area related to a previous confrontation with his stepfather.
The record of incidents involving the artist, who grew up in the La Florida neighbourhood of L'Hospitalet, is extensive. He has already served time for dangerous driving. In August 2021 he was involved in a major confrontation with police in L'Hospitalet during the filming of a music video. That same year he was arrested for threatening Mossos officers with a taser-type electric shock weapon during a pursuit, when the covid pandemic curfew was still in effect.
