Skeletal remains of baby found in Santa Bàrbara property during search

Mossos d'Esquadra have found skeletal remains of a baby inside a property in Santa Bàrbara (Tarragona), according to El Mundo. The search had been initiated following a report filed by the paternal grandfather of the child, who alerted authorities about the boy's disappearance.

The baby's parents were arrested on Wednesday in Valencia as part of an investigation opened for homicide. The duty judge of Court of Instruction No. 10 in Valencia ordered that same afternoon for the couple to appear before the magistrate in charge of the case.

The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia confirmed that section 2 of the instruction section of the court of first instance in Amposta is handling the case under judicial secrecy.

According to the Valencian media outlet Levante EMV, as reported by Europa Press, the paternal grandfather told police that his daughter-in-law had informed him of the child's death and that she had buried him in the property itself, inside a cardboard box.

Both the National Police and Mossos d'Esquadra were initially trying to verify whether the baby had ever actually existed. The grandfather had never seen the child, although he did have a relationship with the couple's five other children.
