Two suspected robbers raided the Watch Club jeweller on Thursday at midday, situated on Avenida Julio Iglesias in Puerto Banús, Marbella, and made off with watches valued at more than €400,000, according to Google News ES — Crime. The National Police have confirmed that they have an ongoing investigation into the incident.
The theft took place at around 12:30. According to the establishment itself, which distributed a video on social media recounting what happened, the two individuals entered by force, smashed a display case and removed four watches.
Employee confined to bathroom
The owner of Watch Club detailed the robbers' method of operation in the video: they grabbed the shop assistant, covered her mouth and locked her in the bathroom. They took the keys from her pocket and attempted to use them to open the display cabinets, but they corresponded to the shop door, not the display units.
The robbers acted without covering their faces or wearing gloves, leaving fingerprints and traces of blood after cutting themselves on the broken display case. Upon fleeing, they abandoned the bags they had brought with them. When they accidentally triggered the automatic lock button, they had to run out to avoid being trapped inside, which, according to the business, prevented them from taking all the watches in the shop.
Investigation ongoing, no arrests
National Police officers attended the jeweller following the alert and took charge of the investigation. Police sources consulted confirmed that proceedings remain open, offering no further information regarding possible arrests.
The business requested maximum circulation of the video to help identify the suspects. In the same message, the owner stated that the incident "will not shake us, we are stronger than ever" and denounced that business owners on the Costa del Sol face this "scourge that must be eradicated" daily. The video concludes with an appeal for the area to "once again be what it has always been: a territory of luxury, leisure, expansion and fair commerce".
