Anti-drug operation at Ibiza's end-of-season nightclub closure
According to diariodeibiza.es, the Santa Eulària Local Police raised 31 reports for possession of narcotic substances during an operation deployed on Sunday night, coinciding with the end-of-season closure of nightclubs on the island. No arrests were made during the operation.
The operation brought together seven officers from the Santa Eulària Local Police and an officer from the Formentera Local Police, who provided her drug detection dog, Summer. The majority of the substances seized were cocaine, although officers also located pink cocaine, known as tusi. The 31 reports were processed under Organic Law 4/2015 on the protection of public safety.
The operation coincided with the weekend of nightclub closures, when the final parties of the season were being held at various nightlife establishments. The island's main clubs sold over 30,000 tickets, which generated hundreds of trips on the roads. Saturday concentrated the majority of the activity, although the public holiday on Monday 12 October allowed the farewell celebrations to be prolonged.
The collaboration of Formentera's canine unit with Ibiza's security forces is not new. In September, this same dog supported the Ibiza Local Police in an overnight operation that resulted in 32 reports related to drugs and one for prohibited weapons. Summer has also participated in operations with the Sant Josep Police and the Vila Police.
In an earlier summer operation, Summer's expertise contributed to locating several drug stashes, one of which led to the arrest of two people for an alleged offence against public health, as reported by Sant Josep Police on social media.
