Suspect in Marbella attack arrested

According to BILD, an 18-year-old Swede was arrested one day after the fatal shooting at the Cirumed clinic in Marbella. The suspect is believed to have shot dead German cosmetic surgeon Dr Alexander Aslani (57). According to Spanish authorities, the murder suspect had travelled to the Costa del Sol only shortly beforehand to kill the doctor.

On Wednesday evening at around 6 p.m., a man dressed in black and wearing a helmet entered the clinic in the east of Marbella. He drew a weapon and opened fire whilst patients, staff and Aslani's wife were still in the building. Aslani was struck by multiple shots, including one to the carotid artery. He was pronounced dead at the clinic.

After the attack, the gunman fled on a dark motorcycle. According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, he is said to have made a "small mistake" during his escape that led investigators to his trail. An accomplice is also said to have been waiting for him outside the clinic. The exact nature of the mistake was not disclosed by authorities.

Investigators believe the attack was deliberately planned. However, the motive remains under investigation. Spanish media report that a former patient could be in the focus of the investigation. She is said to have been dissatisfied with treatment results, demanded her money back and sent angry messages to the clinic. She is also said to have brought her partner there, who is alleged to have made threats. There has been no official confirmation of this information to date.

Dr Alexander Aslani settled in Marbella in 2008. The doctor studied in Innsbruck, completed his specialist medical training in South Africa and subsequently worked in Aachen, Salzburg and London.
