Second night-time operation in Granada's North zone: 64 identified and one detained

The National Police maintained its pressure operation in Granada's North zone for a second consecutive night, according to granadahoy.com. The deployment from Wednesday to Thursday resulted in 64 persons identified and the detention of one individual against whom a judicial warrant was outstanding.
The operation commenced at ten o'clock at night and continued for six hours. Twenty-five officers from various units participated, distributed across fourteen deployments, and also inspected sixteen vehicles. The officers also seized several bladed weapons—resulting in two penalty notices—and issued two further notices for drug possession.
The streets of the Cartuja and Almanjáyar neighbourhoods were once again filled with officers. The sound of the helicopter, which flew at low altitude, was heard even in areas away from the most problematic zones, such as San Ildefonso, Cercado Bajo de Cartuja, La Cruz and Joaquina Eguaras. The operation involved the Special Cavalry Unit, the Judicial Police and the Police Intervention Unit (UIP), although unlike the previous night the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) did not participate.
In the cumulative tally from the two nights of the crackdown plan, the National Police account for three detainees—all on judicial warrants—, 182 identifications and the inspection of approximately forty vehicles. Penalty notices for drug possession total six, and four were issued for carrying bladed weapons.
The plan began last week with a significant increase in police presence in the district. Sources from the National Police Corps explained to the aforementioned outlet that the intensification responds to fights between drug addicts recorded in previous days: confrontations in which participants act in exchange for drugs or cash whilst others record and cheer the scene. The same sources noted that the reinforcement will be maintained over the coming days in order to protect residents of the zone.
