Six arrested for stabbing former DDP leader from Alcobendas in Latina district
National and Municipal Police in Madrid arrested six members of the Latina faction of the DDP for seriously wounding 'Nene', a former gang member serving a third-degree prison sentence.
Six gang members arrested following stabbing of former Dominican Don't Play leader in Madrid
The National Police and Municipal Police of Madrid have detained six men allegedly linked to the Latina faction of the Latin gang Dominican Don't Play (DDP) for stabbing Fernando S. B. A., alias Nene, a former leader of the Alcobendas faction of the same organisation. According to El Mundo, the victim was serving a third-degree prison sentence when he was attacked.
The assault took place on the night of 20 February in the Madrid district of Latina. According to the police investigation, Nene — aged 34 — was walking through a leisure area outside his territory when one of the attackers, accompanied by other individuals, got out of a vehicle and attacked him from behind with a large bladed weapon.
Members of the Latina faction of the DDP recognised the victim as he passed through the district and acted against him because of internal conflicts currently facing the different factions of the gang.
Fernando S. B. A. suffered extremely serious injuries and remained hospitalised for several weeks in the Intensive Care Unit of a Madrid hospital. He ultimately survived.
The investigation and searches
The joint investigation made it possible to identify the vehicle used in the assault and subsequently its occupants. Officers determined that all of them belonged to the DDP, a gang also linked to drug trafficking and other prior violent incidents.
On 11 August, investigators carried out six searches of the suspects' homes. The searches yielded narcotics, imitation firearms, bladed weapons, cash, mobile phones, numerous SIM cards, clothing and documentation which, according to police, link the detainees to violent Latin gangs.
The six detainees
The six men arrested are considered suspected perpetrators of crimes of assault, membership of a criminal organisation and offences against public health. All were placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities. Among those detained are a young Romanian, a Colombian, an Argentine and three Spanish nationals of Ecuadorian and Filipino origin. They have been released on condition of reporting to the court every Monday, having their passports confiscated, and being prohibited from approaching the victim.
Nene's record
Fernando S. B. A. was sentenced in 2021 by the Madrid Provincial Court to nine years' imprisonment for his role in the death of Miguel de Cárdenas, an 18-year-old who received a stab wound to the chest during a brawl in the early hours of 16 September 2017, during the patron saint festivities of San Agustín de Guadalix.
According to the sentence, Nene ordered another gang member to commit the crime following a previous incident during the municipality's festivities. The person who carried out the stabbing was sentenced to seven years and seven months' imprisonment.
At the time of the February attack, Fernando S. B. A. was enjoying a third-degree prison sentence and resided in the Victoria Kent centre.
