Three arrested after pursuit with stolen safe from Vallecas to T4
National Police arrested three Spanish nationals following a night-time pursuit through Madrid that ended at Barajas airport. A forced safe from a café in Collado Villalba was found in the stolen car.
Night-time pursuit through Madrid ends with three arrests and safe recovered
At five o'clock in the morning on 19 August, officers from the National Police travelled to Cañada Real, in the Villa de Vallecas district, in response to an assault in the Valdemingómez area. While attending to that incident, a saloon car with several occupants passed in front of them. The officers ordered the driver to stop the vehicle, but he ignored the order and escaped at high speed.
According to ABC, the flight continued along several main roads in the capital and its metropolitan area. The vehicle travelled on the A-3, M-50, M-31, M-45 and R-3 until reaching Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport. The fugitives reached Terminal 4, where the driver abandoned the car and continued on foot.
Officers managed to intercept him shortly afterwards in the vicinity of the terminal. His two companions, who remained inside the saloon car, were arrested on the spot. A search of the vehicle revealed a safe showing clear signs of having been forced open, along with various tools, gloves and a starting device.
Subsequent checks confirmed that the motor vehicle had been stolen on 5 August, two weeks before the incident. The safe came from a burglary committed that same early morning at a café in Collado Villalba, a town in the north-west of the Madrid region.
The pursuit also resulted in material damage to the Police: several police vehicles were damaged during the operation.
The three arrested individuals are Spanish nationals aged 32, 40 and 49 years old, all with records for similar offences. They were arrested as suspected perpetrators of burglary, car theft or unauthorised use of a vehicle, document falsification, criminal damage and offences against road safety. After police proceedings were concluded, they were placed at the disposal of the courts.
