Arrested in s'Arenal after selling marijuana to tourist under the watch of undercover police

Palma Local Police arrested a 44-year-old street vendor of Senegalese nationality last Tuesday, accused of selling marijuana to a tourist on the beachfront of s'Arenal, according to forbes.es.

The incident took place at approximately 23:15 hours at number 51 on the s'Arenal road. At that time, three plainclothes officers were carrying out surveillance and prevention duties, seated discreetly on the wall that separates the promenade from the sand.

From that position, the officers observed how the suspect approached a 29-year-old Kosovar tourist and openly offered him the possibility of purchasing "some type of drug". The visitor accepted and asked for a marijuana joint, for which he paid ten euros before the vendor moved away from the location.

The man was not carrying the substances on him at the time of the transaction. According to Local Police, he kept the drugs at a nearby location and only travelled there after completing each operation. This tactic, according to the municipal force, is commonly employed by dealers to prevent a routine search from resulting in the seizure of large quantities of narcotics.

A few minutes later, the suspect returned to the customer with a joint in his pocket, an exchange that the officers witnessed directly. At that moment they identified themselves as police and proceeded to interview both men.

The tourist acknowledged the facts and signed a voluntary statement on the spot. The vendor, who was still holding the ten-euro note in his hand and was not carrying any more drugs, also admitted what had occurred.

The officers seized the joint and arrested the vendor as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health. He was placed at the disposal of the National Police for his subsequent appearance before the judicial authority.
