19-year-old man suspected of murdering his landlord in Vantaa – court ordered mental-state examination
A homicide that occurred in Vantaa's Kaivoselka on Ascension Day is under investigation. A young resident is suspected of violence that led to the death of his landlord. The district court has decided to examine the man's mental health status.
19-year-old man suspected of murdering his landlord in Vantaa – court ordered mental-state examination
The East Uusimaa District Court has decided to order a 19-year-old man to undergo a mental-state examination whilst the preliminary investigation is still ongoing. The young man is suspected of depriving an older landlord of his life in Vantaa's Kaivoselka.
The violent act occurred on Ascension Day in the afternoon at a residential building. The deceased man was the owner of the flat and the suspect's landlord. Police detained the young man the same evening from his flat.
Crime commissioner Sanna Rentola, who is leading the investigation, states that the investigative work has progressed as planned. Police have a clear picture of what happened in the flat.
"The prosecutor will have to wait a long time before being able to press charges. This affects the timeline of the entire legal process. Now is not yet an appropriate time to disclose details to the public," Rentola states to YLE.
The authorities do not wish to comment on the court's decision regarding the mental-state examination. According to Rentola, the court has imposed strict confidentiality requirements.
During interrogations, the suspect has shown a positive attitude towards the authorities. At present, the case is being investigated as manslaughter, but police may change the criminal charge later if justified.
