Helsinki District Court on Saturday remanded a man in his early 30s in custody. He is suspected of attempting to kill another person early on Thursday morning in the heart of the capital.

A report of the incident was made to the emergency number after half past five in the morning. An eyewitness reported a stabbing in the Station Square area, in which one person had been struck by a sharp weapon.

Police officers found the injured person and took them urgently to hospital care. The man suspected of the crime had managed to leave the scene before the police patrol arrived.

According to a statement by Helsinki police spokesperson Juuso Metsälä, the victim and the perpetrator have a previous acquaintance relationship. According to him, the legal designation may still be updated as the preliminary investigation progresses.
