A man escaped with a chain mail in a theft at a jewellery shop in Kokkola on Tuesday, having asked to try it on. The perpetrator was caught shortly afterwards.

A valuable necklace disappeared from a jewellery shop located in central Kokkola on Tuesday afternoon. The sales assistant had given the item to the customer at his request to try on.
The man had expressed interest in a chain mail necklace costing approximately €3,500. He asked to be allowed to try the necklace. When the sales assistant handed it to him, the customer bolted.
Security cameras captured the incident. With their help, authorities were able to trace the perpetrator, who was arrested shortly after the theft. He is suspected of aggravated theft.
Police remind the public that care should be taken when trying on expensive items.
