An eight-year-old child suffered serious injuries when corrosive drain-cleaning agent was poured on them in a school yard in Vaasa on Sunday evening. Police found two homemade bottle bombs at the same location the following day.

An eight-year-old child has suffered serious injuries after corrosive drain-cleaning agent was poured on them in a school yard in Vaasa on Sunday evening, 12 July. The child was transported urgently to hospital for treatment.
Police were called to the location, where several young people were present at the time of the incident. Authorities quickly identified two individuals suspected of involvement in serious assault against the child. One of the individuals has been taken into custody, whilst the other is under 15 years old and therefore not criminally responsible under Finnish law.
The case is being investigated as serious assault. Police have been very cautious about releasing details at this stage.
When police returned to the school yard the following day, two homemade bottle bombs were found at the location. The bottles were swollen and close to detonating when police were able to secure them on site.
Vaasa police are urging parents in the area to speak with their children and remind them that bottle bombs are both illegal and extremely dangerous.
