Alleged abuse discovered at a 24-hour residential unit for people with intellectual disabilities in Kajaani has been forwarded to the prosecutor's office. According to Oulu police headquarters, the preliminary investigation has been concluded.

Investigation leader Kimmo Tuulenkari states that the case is now under prosecutorial review. Police launched the investigation in spring when regional welfare authorities reported their suspicions.

In the case, four individuals are suspected of mistreating residents. Three people living in the unit are considered injured parties. The alleged offences fall within the scope of coercion, assault, dereliction of official duty, and defamation.

If the prosecutor decides to press charges, the trial will be held at Kainuu District Court.
