A man and woman in their early thirties died in Kulosaari on Tuesday night when they were struck by a taxi driver. A man in his forties is suspected of drink-driving and two counts of manslaughter.

A traffic accident resulting in the deaths of two young people occurred on Helsinki's Itäväylä near a bus stop in Kulosaari in the early hours of Tuesday morning at around half past midnight. According to Iltalehti, a man and woman in their early thirties were on the roadway when they were struck by a taxi driver in his forties.
According to police suspicions, the driver was intoxicated and fled the scene to Itäkeskus. He was arrested later. The man was not officially on duty, but was driving the taxi on his own time.
Criminal commissioner Tuomas Lindholm states that the suspect has been interviewed once. He has admitted to driving and described the situation as unexpected. Police regard the man as cooperative.
