Violent confrontation between football supporters erupts in Lahti – police detain dozens
On Saturday, violence erupted in Lahti around a football match when FC Lahti and Helsinki Football Club supporters clashed. Häme Police detained 48 people from the scene. Some of them were released the same evening, and the remainder were released by the following morning, according to Commissioner Elina Katajamäki.
The majority of those detained are Finnish citizens. There were also individual foreign nationals among them: one citizen from Liechtenstein, one from Poland, one from Italy and one from Austria.
The investigation is ongoing. According to police, the exact number of injured persons remains unclear for the time being.
