Helsinki District Court released an interim decision on Wednesday regarding a homicide that occurred in Malminkartano in February. According to the court's assessment, the man struck his resting spouse's head with a sledgehammer at least fifteen times.
A cause of death certificate and expert testimony demonstrate with sufficient probability that the act occurred as described in the charge. Injuries to the spouse's right hand suggest that the victim woke briefly during the blows and attempted to shield herself.
According to a previous police investigation, a quarrel had arisen between the septuagenarian couple over matters including financial issues. The man is suspected of striking his wife during the early morning hours.
The court ordered a psychiatric evaluation for the defendant. The case will continue once the assessment is completed, which may take over six months. A final ruling, which will determine the criminal charges and any compensation claims, will be issued only after the evaluation is concluded.
