The act of violence took place in central Helsinki on Mannerheimintie at approximately 3:30 am on Sunday morning. The exact location is opposite the Stockmann department store, at Mannerheimintie 16.
Tapio Hyvönen, the duty investigating officer with the Helsinki police, states that the act was preceded by a quarrel that escalated into a physical altercation. As a result, a 43-year-old man is suspected of striking a 27-year-old man with a bladed weapon to the upper body.
Police apprehended the suspect near the scene of the incident shortly after the act. The weapon used is described as a knife.
The investigation is proceeding as attempted murder. Interviews are scheduled to be conducted during Sunday and Monday. It is not yet known whether the parties were previously acquainted with each other.
