Man assaulted with blade weapon in Helsinki's Vallila – police investigating as attempted murder
On Friday morning in Helsinki's Vallila, on Nokiankuja, a violent crime occurred in which a man sustained serious injuries to the head region. Authorities are treating the case as a possible attempted murder.
The emergency services received notification of the incident at approximately 11.30. Police officers who arrived at the scene launched an investigation, which revealed that a cutting or piercing weapon was used in the attack.
"The gravity of the act and the location of the injuries on the head provide grounds to suspect attempted murder," says criminal commissioner Jari Korkalainen to Keskisuomalainen.
The injured man has been taken to hospital. More detailed information about his condition has not been released at this time.
Police have detained two individuals who are suspected of involvement in the commission of the act. Authorities are investigating whether the parties were previously acquainted with one another. On Friday afternoon, police had not yet been able to interrogate the detainees.
The investigation continues, and the charges may still be modified. It remains unclear whether both detainees used the weapon or whether one was involved in some other way.
