Police have requested and received information from the public as well as security camera recordings from buildings in the area. Authorities continue to appeal to all possible eyewitnesses to report their observations.
Interior Minister Mari Rantanen (ps.) commented on the case. She condemned the violence and stated that everyone in Finland should be able to move about safely. According to the minister, apprehending the suspect is now particularly important. She emphasised that even small observations can be significant for the investigation.
Oulu police have increased preventative surveillance in places where many people move about. Additionally, the police force has developed methods to better identify individuals who may cause concern. This is being done by means of the internet and the police's own customer data, among other things.
