Eastern Finland Police is investigating a violent crime that occurred in Joensuu's Hammashahti district, in which a man in his mid-30s is suspected of two attempted murders.

Eastern Finland Police is investigating the serious injury of two people in Joensuu's Hammashahti district on the night between Sunday and Monday. A local man, approximately 35 years old, is suspected of being the perpetrator.
The sequence of events was dramatic. A woman of roughly the same age fled the attacker by running into a forest. She was located with the aid of a police dog in time for emergency services to provide immediate assistance.
— According to assessments, the victim would have died if the dog had not found her quickly, the police statement notes.
The attacker had known both victims beforehand. One of the assault victims is a man from Joensuu, approximately 50 years old. Both suffered injuries requiring hospital treatment, but their condition has stabilised and there is no longer any danger to life.
The suspect has no previous criminal history. Police are investigating the act as two attempted murders. The investigation has also revealed other assaults related to the settling of the dispute.
