On Saturday 27 June, Häme police received a report of an incident affecting life and health in Lahti after 11 p.m. A dead woman was found in an apartment building, and authorities suspect she was a victim of violence.
A 32-year-old man is suspected of killing his spouse. The victim was 30 years old. The married couple had a divorce petition underway, and their address information indicated separate residences. The prosecutor is seeking a remand order for the man.
The following Monday, police activity was still visible in the Tonttila residential area. Authorities conducted interviews with people in the yard and made rounds of nearby buildings. A flag was seen at half-mast on the pole in the courtyard of the victim's residence.
Media representatives encountered resistance in the area. A local resident pointed with a long rake and asked journalists to leave.
The suspect's criminal record is clean for the past ten years. He was previously convicted of a traffic offence. The man also has several debt collection matters at court level.
