Four similar stabbings have occurred in Oulu, in which a cyclist has attacked foreign-background victims. Police are asking the public for information to identify the suspected perpetrator.

Four suspected violent crimes have occurred within a short period in Oulu, in which a cyclist has attacked foreign-background individuals. The cases have taken place within a radius of less than five kilometres from the city centre.
The most recent incident occurred on Friday in Kaukovainio. Police released an image of the suspected perpetrator on Saturday and are asking for observations.
"We have received far too few tips. We have not received the kind of information that would have brought us close. The identity of the suspected person needs to be established," says Jarno Väliaho, crime commissioner at Oulu Police Department.
The investigation leader states that there is clear similarity in the acts, but the same perpetrator has not yet been confirmed.
The series of attacks began in mid-April in Raksila, when a man on a bicycle hit a foreign-background victim with a sharp object from behind. The suspected person was taken into custody, but the district court rejected the detention request. The next attack occurred in early May in Välkkylä, the third in early June in Knuutilankankaa, and the fourth in late June in Kaukovainio.
In all cases, the perpetrator has been travelling on a bicycle and the victim has been of foreign background. In three cases, the attacker stabbed the victim from behind. In one incident, the sharp object fell from the cyclist when he pushed the victim.
Oulu Police Department is investigating the cases as attempted homicides. Crime Commissioner Väliaho did not comment on what resources have been allocated to the investigation. He states on a general level that cooperation with the Central Criminal Police is continuous in serious matters.
