Police suspect father of attempted murder in Pyhtää – boy taken to hospital
Helsinki Police is investigating a case in which a middle-aged man is suspected of attempted murder of his son, who is under ten years old. The act of violence occurred in Pyhtää during the night of Monday.
The man informed the emergency centre of the situation himself at approximately one o'clock at night. Patrols and the rescue service found the father and son at the turntable of the museum bridge over the Savukoski river. The man was arrested immediately after the act.
The child was taken to hospital urgently. However, his life is not in danger, according to crime commissioner Tuomas Lindholm of Helsinki Police.
Helsinki District Court remanded the suspect, born in the 1970s, in custody on Thursday on probable cause of suspected attempted murder. According to police's assessment, the act involves premeditation, which explains the suspicion of attempted murder rather than aggravated assault.
– The boy was in his father's company with permission. Neither of them lives permanently in Pyhtää, but the parties' sphere of life is in the metropolitan area. That is why Helsinki Police is investigating the case, Lindholm explains.
The method of the act is not being disclosed to the public at present so as not to jeopardise the preliminary investigation. Police has heard the parties involved preliminarily and continues the investigation.
