Oulu police have received well over one hundred public tips relating to stabbings that have occurred in the city. Authorities have intensified their investigation into the violent act that occurred on 26 June in Kaukovainió.

Crime chief superintendent Petri Savela from Oulu police station states that going through the tips requires time, but every observation received from citizens is examined carefully. Surveillance camera recordings have also accumulated in abundance from the vicinity of the incident area.

– Police have directed their resources towards apprehending the perpetrator. Several different investigative teams are involved in clarifying the matter. A great deal of work is being done behind the scenes that is not visible to the public, Savela commented.

The large number of tips does not mean that police will stop requesting observations. Even seemingly minor information can prove to be decisive.

The Oulu region has experienced several stabbings this year in which the attacker has struck whilst on a bicycle, targeting people of foreign origin. Authorities have indications that the motive may be racism.
