The murder of a 24-year-old postal worker in Myyrmäki, Vantaa, in November 2022 remains unsolved. Police suspected a man with mental health problems living in the nearby area, but released him after blood trace analysis.

A 24-year-old woman died violently while performing her work duties in Myyrmäki, Vantaa, in November 2022. The young woman, working as a postal worker, was delivering mail on her birthday at night at the address Myyrmäentie 6 when she was attacked in front of the D stairwell. The perpetrator struck the victim several times in the head with a weapon and then strangled her.
A neighbour witnessed the violence from their window and called the emergency services. According to the neighbour, the perpetrator fled running in the direction of Louhela railway station. However, the surveillance cameras examined by police did not record any person matching the description.
According to documents obtained by Iltalehti, which was used as a source, police suspected a man born in 1985 who was living at the time in a care home located less than half a kilometre from the crime scene. The man matched the eyewitness's physical description.
Police wiretapped the man's telephone calls and searched his residence. The seized clothing contained abundant blood traces, which were later found to be the man's own blood. The man's telephone was located at a base station at Louhela railway station at 3.59 a.m., approximately fifteen minutes after the suspected time of murder. He had a habit of walking around to relieve his distress.
The man had previously been charged with drug offences, property crimes, and traffic offences, and he had a history of violent crimes. According to an expert consulted by police, the man had frequently exhibited rapidly escalating violent behaviour and suffers from violent delusions.
Police arrested the man on suspicion of murder in November 2023, but released him three days later. Detective Chief Inspector Olli Töyräs states that the man is no longer suspected of the young woman's murder.
The National Bureau of Investigation considers the act random and motiveless. Investigation of the case continues at the National Bureau of Investigation, and samples are still being analysed in the laboratory.
