Sentencing for serial assaults in Turku: over 20 victims, majority elderly women

The District Court of Varsinais-Suomi has sentenced Priit Tublin, 43, to 6 years and 6 months in unconditional prison, according to Ilta-Sanomat. The sentence covers 5 aggravated assaults, 15 assaults, and thefts, property damage, and attempted assault.

The crimes occurred between March and May 2025 in various parts of Turku. Tublin had over 20 victims, the youngest of whom was 56 years old and the oldest 89 years old. The majority of the victims were women.

Tublin attacked his victims without warning and pushed them forcefully. In some cases, he also struck, kicked, or threw stones at the victim. He followed one victim from the residential building courtyard into a bicycle storage room. The acts often occurred in the vicinity of a cemetery, and Tublin frequently moved about by bicycle.

Many victims suffered serious injuries, such as fractures to the face and limbs. Recovery may have taken several months. One elderly woman's condition deteriorated as a result of the attack.

The district court applied an aggravating circumstance because the attacks were directed particularly against defenceless persons.

"It appears strongly that the perpetrator has selected as the target of his acts mainly elderly women or other such persons who, by virtue of their age, size or state of health, have not been able to defend themselves against the attack, flee from the perpetrator, or apprehend the perpetrator," the district court stated.

Tublin denied his guilt and claimed that he was not present at the time of the acts. Additionally, he was ordered to pay the victims' legal costs and compensation, the total amount of which runs to tens of thousands of euros.

The sentence is not final, and it may be appealed to the court of appeal.
