A man on a bicycle struck a foreign-background pedestrian with a blade weapon on the back of the upper torso in Oulu's Kaukovainió on Friday evening as it approached eight o'clock. According to Yle.fi, the perpetrator left the scene along a path for light traffic in the direction of Kaukovainió.
The victim was transported to Oulu University Hospital. According to preliminary information, he does not have life-threatening injuries. Police suspect attempted murder in the case.
According to police, the perpetrator and victim are not known to have known each other previously. Police are requesting information about the incident on the tip line 0295 416 194.
This is not an isolated incident: foreign-background individuals have been stabbed from bicycles on multiple occasions in Oulu this year, also in Raksila, Knuuttilankankaa and Välkkylä. Police operations centre commented to Yle about spring incidents of this kind "appearing to be carried out in a very similar manner".
