A fire that broke out in Riihimäki on Midsummer's Eve was deliberately set, according to police. The fire started on Friday, 19 June, shortly after 7 p.m. from waste materials lying beneath the loading area of the Puuilo store.

Fire personnel arrived at the scene and managed to contain the spread of flames to the retail building. However, before the fire was extinguished, it spread to a waste compactor and its surroundings.

Police in Häme are treating the incident as attempted arson, although the criminal charge may be refined as the investigation progresses. Authorities are seeking eyewitness observations from two minors who were spotted at the scene. Their role in the fire's ignition is being actively investigated.
