Satakunta police officer arrested at station on suspicion of sexual crime
A long-serving police officer has been arrested at his station in Satakunta on suspicion of a sexual crime. The Prosecutor General's police crime unit is investigating the matter.
Police crime unit investigates sexual assault
According to Iltalehti, a long-serving police officer has been arrested at his station in Satakunta. He is suspected of sexual assault that occurred in early spring of this year.
The Prosecutor General's police crime unit leads the investigation. Special prosecutor Jonna Ryynänen confirms that the criminal investigation was launched shortly after the incident.
South-Western Finland Police received information of the suspicion from the Prosecutor General's office and, following a hearing, decided to arrest the police officer at his station for the preliminary investigation in March.
Police lawyer Markus Laine from South-Western Finland Police emphasises that a final position will be taken no later than after a final judgment. "These matters must always be treated seriously. We strive to safeguard public confidence in the police," Laine says.
According to Laine, the alleged crime took place during the police officer's free time, not in the performance of his duties. The matter was first reported by Satakunnan Kansa.
