Ostrobothnia Police has completed its preliminary investigation into the case of a man in his forties found dead in the basement of a Seinäjoki house in the summer of 2021. The man had been missing since the previous autumn.

Ostrobothnia Police has completed the preliminary investigation concerning a deceased person found in June 2021 in the Kasper district of Seinäjoki. The case is proceeding to the prosecutor on the basis of suspected murder.
The man, who was approximately forty years old, was last seen alive at the end of November 2020. At that time, the matter began to be investigated as a missing person case.
Later, police indicated that the case might constitute a criminal act resulting in death. In June 2021, the deceased was found in the basement spaces of a residential building. According to the authorities' understanding, the act that led to death occurred in November of the previous year, after which the investigation continued as a murder inquiry.
The preliminary investigation has lasted several years and required extensive investigative work. Police conducted numerous technical examinations and employed various coercive measures.
In the summer of 2021, authorities took five people under suspicion and sought their remand in custody. On the basis of the current preliminary investigation material, no other suspects have emerged.
Detective superintendent Juha Järvelin, who has led the investigation, describes the process as exceptionally lengthy and challenging. He thanks his own staff as well as the Central Criminal Police laboratory, whose expertise has been essential for progress.
Technical investigative work has been central. Multiple samples were examined and results evaluated carefully.
– This has required persistent work, technical skill and collaboration between various specialists, Järvelin emphasises in an official statement.
