A taxi driver became the victim of an armed robbery at a rest stop in Uusikaupunki in south-western Finland on Tuesday evening. Two men threatened the driver with a weapon and took a small sum of money from him.
The incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. at a rest stop on Ukintie, on the border between Uusikaupunki and Laitila. The driver had stopped at a location where a dark red Volvo V40 car without registration plates was parked. Two men were sitting in the car.
The men approached the taxi – one positioned himself next to the driver's door and the other sat in the front passenger seat. The man in the front passenger seat produced a weapon and demanded money.
The driver handed over a small amount of cash that was in the car. Both men then left the scene in the Volvo heading towards Uusikaupunki.
The driver was not physically injured during the robbery, and there were no passengers in the taxi.
South-western Finland police are asking the public for information to help solve the crime. One of the perpetrators is described as approximately 190 centimetres tall, with a sturdy build and a beard. He was wearing a white shirt at the time of the incident. The other man was slim and dressed in a black shirt and loose black trousers.
