Caustic pipe-cleaning agent was poured on a primary school-aged child at the grounds of Ristinummi school in Vaasa. As a result of the act, the child sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, 12 July. There was a large group of young people at the location.
Police received a report from the emergency centre at around 7 p.m. Authorities apprehended the suspects shortly after the act. One person was detained. The age of the second suspect was under 15 years.
The following day, two homemade bottles were found in the school area, which had swollen and were ready to explode. Officers at the scene rendered them harmless.
Ostrobothnia police remind that chemically made explosives are life-threatening and unlicensed. The substances they contain can severely burn skin, and when they explode the bottle fragments sharply.
Parents are urged to talk to young people about what consequences similar experiments could have.
