On Midsummer's Eve, 19 June, a violent incident occurred on Asemakatu in the city centre of Vaasa, in which one person died and another sustained injuries. Ostrobothnia police are investigating the incident as murder and attempted murder.
According to new information, the violence was preceded by a situation related to the distribution of illegal drugs. Authorities have not yet provided further details on how the drug trafficking led to the violence.
During the investigation, it has emerged that the suspect and the deceased had not met before. They did not know each other prior to the night in question.
One person has been arrested and remanded in custody on suspicion of the offence. Police are continuing the investigation and are asking any potential witnesses to come forward. The identity of the detained person has not been released to the public.
