On Friday, a fire broke out in an apartment building on Haapaniementie in Viitasaari. Central Finland Police believe the fire was deliberately set.
Crime Commissioner Annukka Liukkonen states that authorities have already interviewed several people and further questioning is planned. The investigation is also progressing through laboratory tests and analysis of collected evidence.
Police apprehended a vehicle seen in the vicinity of the scene over the weekend as well as the people who were in it. Earlier, authorities had requested tips from the public regarding this vehicle.
"We are investigating how the people in the vehicle are connected to the ignition of the fire," Liukkonen says.
The damage to the building has yet to be assessed. Police have not disclosed whether anyone was injured in the fire.
