Fire at Viitasaari apartment building suspected to be deliberately set – police investigate involvement of light-coloured car
A fire that broke out in the corridor of a residential building in Viitasaari is being investigated as serious arson. According to the Central Finland Police, the flames began to spread in the stairwell on Friday, and the authorities have grounds to suspect that the ignition was caused by deliberate action.
Authorities have identified a light-coloured vehicle from which witness observations were previously sought. Investigating officer Annukka Liukkonen states that it is still being clarified how the people who were travelling in the car are connected to the case.
At the time the fire broke out, there were at least 16 people present in the two-storey building. No one was injured, but smoke spread to the flats and the corridor suffered significant damage.
The police thank those who have already provided information and hope for further observations. Tips can be sent to investigators by telephone on 0295448087 or by email to [email protected]. The subject line of the message should read "Viitasaari fire 10.7.2026".
