A series of crimes took place in Akaa in the Pirkanmaa region on Tuesday, in which several vehicles and property were stolen from various parts of the municipality. An entrepreneur couple found themselves at the centre of events, describing the situation as resembling an action film.

Early in the morning, thieves broke into a property owned by Mikko and Päivi Lammasaitta in Toijala. They stole an all-terrain vehicle and vehicle keys from the property. The couple woke when a motor started outside. Mikko Lammasaitta set out on foot and saw two people driving away on the all-terrain vehicle.

The situation continued when the thieves returned to the property later. This time they attempted to steal a van. However, Lammasaitta arrived at the scene and prevented the vehicle from leaving. He removed the keys from the ignition and called his wife for assistance. Together they cornered the suspected man whilst awaiting the arrival of police. The other thief fled on foot.

Police arrested the man who remained at the scene, as well as another person later. Both were born in the 1990s and are from a different municipality. They are known to police. They are suspected of multiple burglaries, thefts and vehicle theft.

According to crime commissioner Maijastiina Tammisto, the suspects were mobile in several vehicles. Police also arrested a woman suspected of involvement in the crimes.
