The Moselle assize court has sentenced a 31-year-old former postman to 30 years in prison for the particularly violent rape of a 28-year-old woman in Metz in 2019.

The Moselle assize court delivered its verdict on Wednesday 1 July. A 31-year-old former postal employee has been sentenced to thirty years' imprisonment for the sexual assault of a 28-year-old woman.
The offences date back to the night of 17 to 18 November 2019, in Metz. The man, who was then 24 years old, forcibly entered the victim's home. He struck her with punches and kicks before raping her.
The victim sustained serious injuries: a broken nose, head trauma, multiple bruises and facial wounds. She was hospitalised for a week. The accused then fled, taking the young woman's laptop computer and her mobile phone.
The defendant was arrested a few hours later, whilst cycling with the stolen goods. He has been held in custody since. During the trial, he denied the rape charges, claiming that the relationship was consensual.
The jury accepted the aggravating circumstances: violation of the home, use of violence and acts of barbarism. The court also imposed a period of security lasting two-thirds of the sentence, that is twenty years.
