According to Google News FR — Crime (fr), the Paris police prefecture announced on Thursday 20 August that 5.2 tonnes of narcotics had been seized in the Paris conurbation since the start of the year, an increase of 25.9% compared to the same period in 2024. At the same time, 393 prohibition orders on appearing have been issued in the region.
The latest operation took place at the Pablo Picasso housing estate in Nanterre, in the Hauts-de-Seine. This municipality concentrated 83 interventions against drug dealing points since January, resulting in nearly 200 arrests. On a regional scale, this type of operation is up 17% over one year.
The authorities are also targeting the underground economy of organised criminal networks. Around forty businesses, suspected of money laundering, have been closed since 1 January in Paris and its neighbouring departments.
The anti-drug trafficking law, enacted last summer, now provides prefectures with an additional tool: they can order landlords to evict dealers and their families from their homes. Since the start of the year, 64 such orders have been issued in the region.
