According to Google News FR — Crime (fr), two individuals suspected of international drug trafficking were arrested early on the morning of Monday 25 August at the Beaune and Gevrey-Chambertin motorway service areas in Côte-d'Or, along the A6 motorway. A search of their vehicles led to the discovery of 529 kilograms of cocaine, concealed in one of the two. The estimated value of the goods for resale reached €4.1 million.
The operation was the result of a week of surveillance conducted by the Lyon branch of the Anti-Narcotics Office (OFAST 69). A preliminary investigation had been opened after the Lyon Search and Intervention Brigade (BRI) had identified two vehicles making suspicious round trips. "The meticulous investigations by the investigators made it possible to confirm the departure of these two vehicles heading for Spain, one of which was stolen and falsely plated," the Rhône police directorate stated in a statement.
The two suspects, aged 35 and 42, were already known to police. Held in custody following their arrest, they were subsequently committed for trial — notably for drug importation and criminal association — and remanded in custody.
