780 people were detained in France during celebrations of PSG's Champions League victory, which escalated into violent clashes. 57 members of the security forces and 219 revellers were injured.
780 people detained in France during violence following PSG's Champions League victory
Celebrations of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winning the Champions League turned to violent clashes during the night between Saturday and Sunday. In total, 780 people were detained across France, authorities announced on Sunday.
The security forces had anticipated trouble, as in the previous year. For this reason, 22,000 police officers had been deployed across the country.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez specified at a press conference on Sunday that the number of detentions was 32 per cent higher than the previous year, during the same celebration.
According to the minister, 57 security force officers and 219 revellers were injured during the night. Eight people were seriously injured.
The Paris public prosecutor's office also indicated that a young man died in a motocross accident on the Paris ring road, and that one person was injured by a knife attack in Paris.
