Francis Renaud arrested following complaint by ex-partner
Actor, director and screenwriter Francis Renaud was taken into custody on Monday for "rape, harassment and violence", according to rtl.be, confirming information initially published by Ici Normandie.
According to a source close to the case cited by AFP, Renaud was arrested on Monday afternoon "following a complaint from his ex-partner". The latter claims she was "forced to have sexual relations in his presence with other men over a period of around twelve years". Part of the alleged incidents took place in Vernon, where the actor currently resides, as well as in other locations in France.
The public prosecutor of Évreux, Rémi Coutin, confirmed the custody measure as part of an investigation conducted by the Organised and Specialised Crime Division (DCOS) of Rouen.
Francis Renaud, 59, is notably known for his roles in several films by Olivier Marchal, including 36 Quai des Orfèvres, The Lyonnais and Bronx, as well as in television films such as Zodiac and The Villemin Affair.
This arrest comes in a particular context: in 2024, Renaud had himself filed several complaints. He had accused director André Téchiné of sexual harassment, targeted casting director Gérard Moulevrier for sexual assault, and filed a complaint against an unidentified person for death threats. The Évreux prosecutor had then called for "the greatest caution", considering that the accusations against Téchiné did not appear "to be qualified as sexual harassment" and that the facts alleged against Moulevrier were "time-barred". Three months after the investigation was opened, the Paris prosecutor's office had closed the case due to the statute of limitations.
