During the night of 19 to 20 June, a seventeen-year-old was savagely assaulted on a building site in Narbonne. Found unconscious the following day by a worker, Louis died in hospital several days later.
Five people have been arrested: two adults and three adolescents. The investigation, opened for attempted homicide, is expected to be reclassified as murder following the death.
The victim's godmother, Marie-Julie Marteau, gave a chilling account to Figaro TV. She claims the attackers recorded the scene on their phones, laughing around the young man as he lost blood. Images are reported to have been filmed before, during and after the beating. In one of them, a suspect is said to be wearing Louis's cap on a train shortly after the incident.
The victim, who suffered from attention difficulties and had recently been placed in a state welfare facility, had already filed a complaint for assault and battery on 11 May in Narbonne. He had also reported a group assault in the Tarn. According to his aunt, the attackers reproached him for having spoken to the authorities.
A commemorative march took place in Narbonne to honour Louis's memory. Those close to him invited political figures from all sides to join them.
