The public prosecutor's office of Paris announced on Wednesday 15 July that it would not proceed to the Court of Cassation concerning the case of parliamentary assistants of the National Front (now the National Rally). This announcement was made in a brief statement.
The magistrate heading the prosecutor's office had a period of ten working days to decide following the ruling handed down by the court of appeal on 7 July. She chose not to pursue the procedure, despite the fact that her submissions had not been upheld by the appeal court judges.
This position of the public ministry coincides with Marine Le Pen's intention to contest the court of appeal's decision herself through an appeal to the Court of Cassation. The former presidential candidate had announced that she would lodge an appeal.
This judicial case concerns allegations of fictitious jobs involving collaborators of the far-right party within the European Parliament. Several leaders of the movement, including Marine Le Pen herself, had been placed under investigation in this matter.
