A journalistic investigation has brought a new element to one of France's most widely publicised criminal cases. An account on an online Catholic forum may have been used by Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès until 2017, six years after the quintuple murder of his family in Nantes.
In 2011, the man had been formally identified as a contributor to the website cité-catholique.org under the usernames "Ligo" and "Chevy". These two profiles had ceased all activity shortly after the discovery of the bodies. However, a third account named "Epsilon" appears to have been maintained until August 2017, according to research carried out by journalist Arnaud Wajdzik of Ouest France.
Stylometric analysis of several hundred messages was entrusted to experts. These specialists examined the syntax, biblical references, and distinctive graphical features such as the repeated use of successive exclamation or question marks, and the use of words entirely in capitals to convey emphasis. These indicators would converge towards the hypothesis that the family man was concealing himself behind this username.
The Nantes prosecutors' office received these analyses. For now, the magistrates have not wished to express themselves publicly on these revelations. The Dupont de Ligonnès affair remains one of France's most persistent judicial mysteries, the man having disappeared since the night of the incident in April 2011.
